How to Manage Dry Skin

by The Beauty Editor at EssentialDelightsMakeup.com

Dry skin is flaky, rough or scaly skin.  It can feel tight, especially on your face.  Dry skin can be itchy and sensitive, with red patches.  It is prone to wrinkle with aging.  Ugh!  How do you manage dry skin?

Your skin is an organ, just like the heart, lungs and stomach.  The skin cells are made of 90% water, so the very best thing you can do for your skin is to keep it hydrated and drink plenty of water!  Experts recommend six to eight 8-ounce glasses every day.

Start increasing your water intake right now, and every day add more until you work up to that goal.   Drink a glass or a bottle of water with or after each meal instead of soda or coffee.  Add a glass or bottled water in between each meal and you're almost there!

Coffee and soda do the opposite of water, they dehydrate, so avoid them.  If you absolutely hate water, try the flavored waters or add lemon or a just a bit of sugar-free powdered drink mix to your water bottle to give it a better taste!

Avoid very hot showers and baths. Save energy and save your skin .... turn the dial down to avoid drying out your skin even more.

Moisturizers are used to hold the water in the skin.  They don't add water or moisture, that's your job.  Always apply your moisturizer right after your shower or bath, while your skin is slightly damp, and the moisturizer will hold the water next to your skin until it is absorbed.

If you have dry skin, you have to work on it everyday.  We can recommend a couple of products that we have found very helpful.  We love the Clarins skin care line and these two products are wonderful for treating dry skin on the body.  Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub and Clarins Moisture-Rich Body Lotion are unsurpassed when used together!  Whatever you use, remember drink, drink, drink (water) and moisturize!
